SRI LANKAN CUISINE
A BRIEF HISTORY OF SRI LANKAN CUISINE
Sri Lanka is an ancient island with a rich history dating back to paleolithic times.
In other words, we had a lot of time to get it right.
Sri Lankan cuisine was initially dominated by pepper which grew naturally on the island. However, the island's richness of resources soon attracted colonial powers and as the ships of the Dutch, Portuguese, and British brought new influence, along with them came a variety of spices from around the world.
These new flavors were infused into the cuisine of the island and gives Sri Lankan curry powder a uniquely delicious taste found nowhere else.
Obviously most Sri Lankan's would agree that there is nothing quite like a homemade meal - but influence breeds industry as well as necessity for "fast food" thus SHORT EATS were born.
Short Eats are savory pastries brimming with flavor and in Sri Lanka, can be found on every block, any roadside stand, or even off of an auto-rickshaw food cart.
These delicious handheld street foods are meant to be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee at ANY TIME OF DAY.
